Loan for home extension

Do people generally get a loan to pay for a house extension (it's a loft conversion which will cost about £55k all in) or extend their mortgages?

extend your mortgage if you can as the rates are better. Of course, you can pay back a loan quicker than mortgage, but the rate on your mortgage will mean you can get more cash if you need to.
